The race to move ahead in life often takes us places—whether it’s a career switch, moving in with a partner, or relocating to a new city. But shifting homes, our personal sanctuary, can be both physically and mentally exhausting. And if you’re a hoarder, the process becomes even more tedious and expensive.

To make your house move smooth and hassle-free, break it down into three phases:

1. Planning the Move

Start Early – Give yourself ample time to plan. As soon as you finalise the move, begin packing things you won’t need immediately.

Declutter Before You Pack – Take this opportunity to sort through your belongings. Empty those forgotten drawers, donate clothes you no longer wear, and consider repurposing wardrobe pieces instead of hoarding them.

Reuse Delivery Boxes – Save sturdy Amazon, Nykaa, and other delivery boxes to store smaller items like toiletries and skincare. You can also ask local grocery stores for larger boxes.

Utilize Suitcases – Borrow extra suitcases from friends to safely store and transport clothes, rather than relying solely on cartons.

Keep Old Newspapers Handy – Newspapers make excellent cushioning for delicate items and can also be used for cleaning in your new home.

Click Photos for Easy Setup – Take pictures of your current setup before packing. This will help you remember how things were arranged and make unpacking smoother. Create a dedicated phone album for these images and delete them once you’re settled.

Pack an Essentials Bag – Keep a separate bag with things you’ll need for the first few days—clothes, toiletries, basic utensils—so you don’t have to scramble through boxes immediately.

2. The Moving Day

Label Everything Clearly – Mark boxes by category or room to make unpacking easier.

Protect Valuables – Keep important documents, jewelry, and electronic gadgets in a separate, secure bag that stays with you during the move.

Check the New Space Before Moving In – If possible, do a quick sweep of your new home to ensure it’s clean and ready for your belongings.

3. Unpacking & Settling In

Unpack the Kitchen First – Setting up the gas pipeline or cylinder early will save you unnecessary food delivery expenses. If that’s not immediately possible, keep an induction cooktop handy for quick meals.

Take Your Time – Since you’ve already packed essentials separately, unpack at a comfortable pace without feeling overwhelmed.

Moving doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. With a bit of planning and organization, you can turn it into an exciting new beginning!Flatten the boxes to save space.
